This month’s WMCA member meeting at 4:00 pm will explore the topic of the ethics obligations for coaches. To kick off the discussion, we’ve listed the following components of coaching ethics:
- Contracting: explaining to the client how coaching works; clarifying the obligations of both the coach and the client, financial and otherwise, setting boundaries for both the coach and client, explaining how the coaching relationship can be terminated and by whom
- Clarifying who the client is
- Confirming that the coach is guided by what’s best for the client
- Confidentiality: regarding the coaching relationship, the content of coaching sessions and the issues or opportunities faced by the client
- Compromise avoidance: identifying, naming and refusing to engage in ethically-compromised coaching situations
Are there aspects of ethics for coaches that are missing? Others that need more clarification?
