Program Overview

Sinéad Ruane will present some preliminary findings from her dissertation research — for which many WMCA members gave their time and thoughts by agreeing to be interviewed.  The focus will be on the joys and challenges of coaching and self-employment.

During the first half of the presentation, Sinéad will discuss some of the themes that have emerged during her fieldwork, (which includes observations, reading, interviews, and informal conversations), illustrating with some examples and stories.  Sinéad welcomes questions and comments.

In the second half, Sinéad will open up the floor to a more interactive discussion.  She is interested in hearing our feedback and ideas about how this information can be employed to address the needs of coaches and to support their careers.

About Sinéad Ruane

Sinéad Ruane is currently a PhD candidate in Organization Studies, studying at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.  She holds degrees in the area of Management and Marketing from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and University College Dublin, Ireland.

Using qualitative and interpretive methodologies, Sinéad is interested in exploring issues of culture, power, and identity in the workplace, new forms of work and employment relations, and the emotional side of organizational life.  She has recently been awarded an Institute of Coaching Harnisch Fellowship to support her dissertation research, which examines the emerging profession of coaching through the narratives of those working in this field.

WMCA Member Response to Wellness Coaching Presentation

This email was in response to the wellness coaching presentation by Pam Burris at the November 18, 2009 meeting.

___________________________

Thanks Pam for last night’s wellness presentation about what wellness is, how it is developing in our country, as well as tools we can use for ourselves and clients to create more wellness.

I thought I knew what wellness was, but you broadened my understanding as well as my awareness of what to look for in my daily life to create it, through my breath, my sensing and my eating. These seem like such simple aspects of life, but they are really so all encompassing as each day is lived.

So I take away from your presentation, this greater awareness of what wellness is, how I can live into it with breathing, sensing and eating, as well as how I can choose just one piece of my life to enhance, and affect all other aspects as well to my betterment and well being.

So in this season of gratitude, I would like to thank you Pam, as well as Jess and Carrie, and Marsha for giving us your time to offer these worthy programs each month this fall, and for the work you all have done with Fern to develop and hold our future as an alliance. I appreciate so much, that Kim George and others had the foresight to create this WMCA, and that others followed her in leadership to grow and nurture it through the years. I have benefited so much from the learning, support and collaboration I have found through being a member. Thank you all.
